Mark Merenda helped me turn my shoestring law practice into a real law business. The first time I met with Mark, he said some things to me that made a lot of sense. That was several years ago, when I was an associate at another firm. That firm thought they didn't need help with marketing, so I tucked Mark away in my mind. Fast forward a few years later and I am leaving that firm. One of the first things I did was call Mark Merenda. I've never regretted that call.
I'll never forget my first Medicaid workshop 42 people showed up in a town of about 15,000, and that was just the first workshop. It was obviously due to Smart Marketing. That was only the beginning.
Six months after opening my own law business, in a town of 8,000, the business is generating a regular income that is greater than my previous income. I've hired an assistant to help with the flow of work, and I am becoming known as the "go to" attorney on Medicaid issues. Everyone told me that it would take at least six months before I would ever "see a paycheck." It took two. In three or four, I was back to my old salary. That never would have happened without Mark and Smart Marketing.
Mark instilled in me some invaluable lessons as I began the initial marketing campaign: be warm, be friendly, and treat everyone as if they were already your client. It is so simple, but so powerful and it works!
The staff at Smart Marketing is absolutely the best. At first any time I called, I wanted to talk to Mark. I soon learned that the staff really knew their stuff. One of the staff members went on maternity leave, and the whole team never missed a beat. It showed me that Mark apparently knows how to run his own business quite well.
There was a time early on when I was panicking because I didn't think there were enough reservations for a workshop. One of the staff members calmed me down and convinced me to wait until after the weekend. Sure enough, the numbers were there. It was great to know that they believed in their own strategy. Obviously they have seen it work so many times.
Before hiring Mark, I called a colleague who is a Smart Marketing client and whose opinion I trust. In addition to her positive comments, she told me that she had been concerned that once she hired Mark she would rarely hear from him again. She reassured me that was not the case, and she was right. I have never had trouble getting to Mark when I needed to bounce something off of him. In fact, he enjoys it and invites it. Especially when I first started, I bugged the heck out of him and his staff with questions. Not once did I ever get the impression that I was bothering them.
The one thing I regret about my relationship with Mark is that I haven't used him to his full potential I've been too busy dealing with all the work that is coming in from his marketing. I have learned, however, that Smart Marketing has more depth than just an ad campaign for Medicaid workshops. They are a resource for me to use for all aspects of business. Now that I'm on my feet, I look forward to using that resource in an even greater way.
